Ponents - Lucas Graves from Michigan University and Ramón Salaverría, Universidad de Navarra

The Disputatio 2024 presents a high-level debate on a pressing issue of our time: disinformation, a term that encompasses the well-known fact of “fake news”. With the title "Disinformation: The Invisible Global Threat," this event will bring together leading experts in journalism and communication to explore the pervasive impact of disinformation on global societies. Disinformation affects not only public opinion but also the foundations of democratic systems, making it a critical topic that demands thoughtful discussion and collaborative solutions.

The debate will feature two distinguished speakers: Lucas Graves, Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a leading scholar on the impact of media and digital information, and Ramón Salaverría, Full Professor at the University of Navarra, recognized for his work on journalism and digital media ethics. The discussion will be moderated by Ruth Rodriguez, Senior Lecturer at UPF Barcelona and researcher in communication. Together, they will examine the complex dynamics of disinformation, its consequences, and potential strategies to mitigate its harmful effects
